Assistive technology & mobility

The right equipment, tested in the right context

Mobility equipment should solve a defined problem without creating a new one. We assess the person, task and environment, arrange relevant trials and document the clinical reasoning behind recommendations.

We commonly assist with

  • Four-wheeled walkers and other mobility aids
  • Manual and powered mobility options within physiotherapy scope
  • Equipment for transfers and mobility around the home
  • Home or supplier-based trials
  • Comparison of shortlisted products
  • Clinical reports, recommendations and supplier liaison

A trial is more than a test drive

We look at fit, posture, braking, handling, turning, thresholds, curbs, outdoor surfaces, fatigue, transport, storage and the person’s ability to use the equipment consistently. Family or carers are involved when their assistance is part of safe use.

Working within professional scope

Complex environmental modification, self-care equipment or broader occupational performance needs may require occupational therapy. We identify that early and coordinate rather than forcing the problem into one discipline.
